Helaba!

Is het een goa-trance festival in de bossen? Is het een after? Is het een rooftop penthouse party? Nee, het is de knusser dan knusse IGLO borrel in de Killa Cutz op de tweede donderdag van de maand natuurlijk! Vanmiddag poppen de zakken met borrelnoten weer open en mogen de kroonkurken 'pop' van de pijpjes bier. Bij dit genot blijft het niet alleen. Esther, Rosie en Martine aka Eskimo Limon draaien straks vanaf 17.00 uur vers vinyl en lekkers uit de eigen trommel aan elkaar in de winkel. Wie weet tot straks, hier is alvast een kleine greep uit de platen die deze week zijn binnengekomen.

Los Updates Feat. Villallobos & Dandy Jack - First If You Please rmx (Cadenza)

Chilli slaat de handen ineen op First If You Please: de Chilleense Jorge Gonzalez en Loreto Otero vormen samen Los Updates. Hun beroemde landgenoten Ricardo Villalobos en Luciano remixten Los Updates' de gewaagde popsongs welke grenzen aan minimal house. 13 minuten aaneen rijdt Villalobos' 4 Wheel Drive remix met een onweerstaanbare groove door een psycho-akoestisch landschap. Dandy Jack remixte het nummer Inviting You Here naar een housy techno nummer. Op de volgende release van Los Updates volgen de remixen van onder andere Luciano en Tobias.
Dj Misk (AltroVerso / IT): 'The villalobos remix is nice. Its exotic sounds marked by psychedelic aestethics are a valid reason to play this track.'
2000 and one (Intacto): 'Phat, phat!!! ricardo creates a tru trip, he always does this. I played this last weekend from the beginning untill the end, never boring and so funky.'

Session Victim - No Friends (Real Soon)

O o o o oww, dit is een fijne plaat. Van het duo Hauke Freer en Matthias Reiling (Session Victim)verscheen al eerder werk op vinyl. Voor wie straks verkocht is aan No Friends: het was de Hi Murda remix op A1 van de Zwitser Agnes. No Friends EP is het debuut van de heren uit Hamburg en Berlijn. De door house beïnvloede old school tracks hebben een pompende beat die als een treintje doorstomen. Op de tussenstations stapt een snippertje vocal aan boord.

Heartthrob -Signs (Minus)

Zo de M nus sabbatical is voorbij. Tijdens de jaarlijkse pauze van de M nus heeft Hearttrob op een pakkend melodietje gezeten naar het schijnt, want op b-kant Apprentice klinkt een riedeltje dat lastig uit het hoofd te krijgen is. Het lijkt erop dat Hearttrob tijdens zijn sabbatical de Nintendo van zolder heeft gehaald, Apprentice doet denken aan het level dat Super Mario zijn prinses heeft gevonden, lief. Signs gaat funkydark diep terwijl je op een opzwepend laddertje steeds verder omhoog blijft klimmen.

The Mole - As High As The Sky LP (Wagon Repair)

Wagon Repair veteraan The Mole heeft zich een tijdje ingegraven in zijn studio voor zijn allereerste album. What happens in the grotto stays in the grotto, maar gelukkig is deze mol naar buiten gekomen om ons allen te verassen met zijn mooie As High As The Sky. Ja ook mollen kunnen tot aan de hemel reiken. De klanken zijn vol en organisch, de zielvolle acht tracks lopen uiteen van melodisch met mantra-achtige vocalen tot donkere funky bassen.

2000 and one (Intacto): 'Amazing album!!! The mole's stuff is so organic all that sampled disco and funk stuff. Wicked style. I nearly played all of the track already!'

Guy Gerber - Disorientation (Supplement Facts)

Na een toer door Zuid Amerika in januari dit jaar kwam Guy Gerber met een vol hoofd terug. Hij liep namelijk al een aardig tijdje rond met een saxofoon sample in zijn bollebas. Eenmaal thuis raakte hij na een lange nachtelijke sessie met vrienden om acht uur 's ochtends ineens het juiste effectknopje waardoor een vreemde nieuwe harmonie uit het kastje werd getoverd. En zo geschiedde het dat het nog te mooie en lieve saxofoontje ineens sexy en vinylwaardig werd. Producers Johnny D en Rebooth hebben Disorientation op geheel eigen wijze ook met de knoppen aangepakt. Johhny D gaat housy terwijl Rebooth een funky strak nummer er van maakt. Zoals Guy Gerber het zegt: 'Een afterhour record.'

Funk/Jazz

Black Velvet - Is It Me You Really Love (Truth & Soul)

Yes its you we really love! Truth & Soul slingert het harmonieuze geluid van het tiener zangtrio Blank Velvet anno 2008 in, dit op kraakvers vinyl en kraakheldere kwaliteit. Sammy Campbell's twee meesterwerken An Earthquake's Coming en Is It Me You Really Love uit de Jersey muziekscene hebben naast een onweerstaanbaar 'wooooh' gehalte ook de extra plus dat de drum je lichaam laat dansen.

Ed Smith - Michael Remixes (EDR)

Dit jaar werd Michael Jacksons ultimate album Thriller ten ere van haar 25 jarig jubileum compleet vernaggeld. De grote namen in de hip hop r&b wereld konden helaas niets toevoegen aan de perfectie van de originelen. Of Michael zich daarop omrolde in zijn bed op de Neverland ranch is onbekend. Maar Ed Smith heeft duidelijk ballen en de stoute schoenen aangetrokken om zijn funk los te laten op de klassieker Billy Jean en het duet van broer en zus: Scream. Als Jackson's kont er niet van gaat schudden dan doet die van ons het wel. Het lijkt alsof als of Michael het zelf gemaakt heeft en eindelijk een jazzy funky weg ingeslagen is. Vive la Ed Smith.

Extravers: Route du Soleil

Extravers is er weer op 13 juni met een super zomers feestje in Akhnaton:

Met de autoradio aan, de Renault-5 raampjes open in de zinderende hitte rijden we naar het zuiden op de Route du Soleil. Waar kleffe broodjes kaas, zelf samengestelds muziekcassettes, salmiaklollies, te zwaar bepakte auto's, pas geschoren benen, zomerjurkjes, koelboxen, campingaccessoires en de routekaart samensmelten in een geweldig vakantiegevoel. Eigenlijk gekkenwerk, maar stiekem hartstikke leuk.
