Aan het prille begin van het festivalseizoen slaat de festivalstress al voorzichtig toe rond ons heen. Zo missen de heren van Gasten zonder Grenzen de bouwtekening van hun stage op Free Your Mind. De tweedehands broeikas die ze op de kop getikt hebben bij een teler mag gezien worden als lego voor gevorderden, met bouwsteentjes van honderden stalenpijpen, mannen succes. Bij menig organisator staat de buienradar al 24/7 aan... wij denken: als je platentas maar in orde is. Hier is een kleine greep uit de mooie selectie van deze week:

Jay Haze - Love & Beyond (Tuning Spork)

Brad Pitt (ja, de acteur): "I was never into this kind of music before, but after hearing this album in the club, it made me want to become a DJ."
We know Brad. Met twee cd's en twee lp's met op elk weer ander geluid slaat Jay Haze's Love & Beyond je steeds weer om de oren. Het album wordt al een klassieker genoemd door DJ MAG. Haze heeft het uiteenlopende werk dat op Love & Beyond staat, geproduceerd op zijn zelf opgerichte Tuning Spork (Philadelphia). Totaal eigenwijs negeert en verkent Jay de grenzen van muziekgenres en zet zo een zelfportret van zijn veelzijdige persoon neer.

Schatrax - Vintage Vinyl E.P. 1. (Schatrax)

Ben je nog op tijd om je monsterbod op Ebay terug te trekken? We hopen het. Want de classics van Schatrax, die voor goed geld tweedehands worden verhandeld, worden gere-released. Het vijftien jaar oude label brengt opnieuw haar oude nummers uit, welke voor het laatst tien jaar geleden van de pers afkwamen. De eerste in de serie heet Vintage Vinyl E.P. 1. De drie meest gezochte tracks van het label staan allen op deze eerste limited edition. De warme housy tracks zijn allen geremasterd zodat ze vergeleken met hun grijs gedraaide broertjes weer als vanouds uit de boxen kunnen knallen.

Boola/Demos - Anima Tru EP (A:rpia:r Romania)

Dat Roemenie veel goeds herbergt wisten we inmiddels wel met de producties van Pedro en Rhadoo. Daar blijft het gelukkig niet bij, Boola en Demos geven je met een heerlijk vrolijke zomerse sound je oren een kusje.

Paddo & Sis - Yuhricame (Freiraum Musik Germany)

Nadat Paddo niet helemaal kon schikken naar de regels van bestaande labels besloot hij zijn eigen label te beginnen, Freiraum Musik Germany in Frankfurt/Offenbach, waar ook het succesvolle Playhouse zit. Samen met Sis is Paddo op Yuhricame even een duo. Alleen de stevige beats verraden tussen de tropische trommeltjes door dat het een Duits duo betreft. Erg mooi.

Adios Amigos! Dus, no stressos over de platos. Ze zijn weer erg lekker deze week.

Extravers: Route du Soleil

Extravers is er weer op 13 juni met een super zomers feestje in Akhnaton:

Met de autoradio aan, de Renault-5 raampjes open in de zinderende hitte rijden we naar het zuiden op de Route du Soleil. Waar kleffe broodjes kaas, zelf samengestelds muziekcassettes, salmiaklollies, te zwaar bepakte auto's, pas geschoren benen, zomerjurkjes, koelboxen, campingaccessoires en de routekaart samensmelten in een geweldig vakantiegevoel. Eigenlijk gekkenwerk, maar stiekem hartstikke leuk.
